About us
The UP /VE Resin Association represents unsaturated polyester (UPR) and epoxy vinyl ester (VE) resins producers of Europe.
It operates as a Sector Group within Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council. The UP /VE resins are the key building blocks in creating lightweight and durable composite materials, used in sectors such as wind, construction, infrastructure and transport.
CEFIC was founded in 1972, and is the voice of large, medium and small chemical companies across Europe, which provide 1.2 million jobs and account for 16% of world chemicals production.
Ensure compliance with regulations.
CEFIC supports its members to be on top of REACH and acts as a single industry voice to EU policy makers, NGOs and other key stakeholders. CEFIC helps its members to understand regulations, to anticipate legislative changes, and to manage the complexity of dossier preparation and maintenance. CEFIC UP / VE Resins is actively involved in discussions around Styrene, Cobalt and Microplastics, promoting the development of registration dossiers in a balanced and scientific-based manner.
Promote recycling and sustainability
CEFIC UP / VE RESINS believes composite recycling is integral to the product life cycle of composite components and products containing composite components. Therefore, we play an active role in promoting composite recycling routes. In 2019, we started a collaboration with the Wind Europe and EuCIA (European Composites Industry Association) to further develop waste collection and recycling routes of wind turbine blades. CEFIC UP / VE RESINS is developing the basic resin information for doing a Life Cycle Analysis on composite components.
Composites industry growth.
Because of the inherent benefits of light weight, durability and design flexibility, composites can build on a track record of sustainable performance compared to traditional materials. CEFIC UP / VE RESINS is promoting the use of composites as the material of choice for many demanding applications.
Product safety.
CEFIC UP / VE Resins has developed UP Resin Safe Handling Guides. These address the key health, safety and environmental issues associated with the storage and processing of raw materials in the UP / VE resin industry. This includes advice and guidance to ensure good practices when using UP resins, as well as specific recommendations on styrene exposure and abatement, Personal Protective equipment (PPE), and legislation governing UP resins in the EU. https://www.upresins.org/safe-handling-guides.
