Unsaturated Polyester and Vinyl Ester Resin Association launches a new website and visual identity to help build new market interest in the sector’s Green Deal solutions.

19 July 2021

Brussels, 19 July 2021 – Unsaturated polyester (UP) and vinyl ester (VE) resins offer vital solutions that can help Europe in its goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

Stefan Osterwind, Chairman of UP/VE Resin Association said: “We fully embrace the objectives of the European Green deal and its ambition to be climate neutral by 2050, and we’re thrilled to have a new image and website that allows us to show the important contribution of UP/VE Resins to key technology solutions for climate neutrality. For instance, electrification is seen as one the key pathways to decarbonising Europe, and our composite materials enable both performance and sustainability of wind energy by enabling lighter and longer blades, optimising conversion efficiency and increasing turbine power output”.

UP/VE Resins are specialised polymers most commonly combined with glass fibres and carbon fibres to create durable reinforced lightweight composite materials of immense mechanical strength, which are used in making sustainable technology solutions for the renewable energy market (e.g., wind, solar and tidal energy) as well as for light weight electrical vehicles.

Innovation in UP/VE resin composite materials is also paving the way for the use of novel materials to manufacture lightweight, cryogenic, easy to form and strong tanks and vessels for the storage and transport of hydrogen. These next-generation sustainable composite materials will play an essential role in the European joint efforts to reduce carbon intensive industrial manufacturing processes and C02 emissions associated with mobility.

As a specialty division within the chemical sector, we fully endorse the European Commission’s recognition that the chemical industry will play an indispensable role in helping Europe actualise the ambitions of the Green Deal and UP/VE resins are ready to take an active part” concluded Osterwind.
